Wellspring to Host Free Community Lecture Series

Wellspring is happy to announce a Community Lecture Series highlighting important mental health issues that affect individuals of all ages. Lectures are open to the public and free of charge.

Raising Children by Building and Restoring Relationships with Children 12 and Under

THIS LECTURE POSTPONED UNTIL FALL Thursday, July 8, at 7:00 PM, Presented by Dan Murray, PsyD

As children grow through the elementary school ages they need parents to be smart enough, loving enough and strong enough to help them grow up right. This presentation will outline some foundation concepts which will help parents understand how to raise children while keeping them safe and teaching them that they are valued contributing members of the family.

Daniel Murray, PsyD, is Wellspring’s Chief of Professional Services, supervising the clinical staff of Wellspring’s residential, outpatient, and educational programs.

Identifying Child Abuse and Neglect

Thursday, July 15 at 7:00 PM, Presented by Colleen Johnstone, MSW

Individuals whose work involves regular contact with children are mandated by law to report suspected child abuse and neglect. In this workshop individuals ranging from Medical Doctors to Scout Leaders, Dental Hygienists to Soccer Coaches, Pharmacists to Day Care Workers and Religious Education Leaders will learn how to identify child abuse and neglect and what to do if they suspect a child is being abused or neglected.

Colleen Johnstone, MSW, is a primary therapist at Wellspring’s Therapeutic Group Home for Girls where she works with children with a history of abuse and neglect.

The Power of Art (Therapy)

Thursday, July 22 at 7:00 PM, Presented by Michele Murelli, MA

Art as Medicine; Art as an Entry Point to Thinking; Art Gives the Soul a Visual Voice. Art can heal, art can lead you to a deep understanding, and art can give you true insight into the heart and mind of its maker. Join us for this experiential talk where you will learn about the unique expressive approach to art therapy within an educational construct along with its role in the birth and evolution of human communication.

Michele Murelli, MA, is Wellspring’s Art Therapist for residential programs where she works with children, adolescents, and adults; she also teaches Art at The Arch Bridge School at Wellspring.

The Nature of Anger

Thursday, July 29 at 7:00 PM, Presented by Richard Beauvais, PhD

Anger can be scary, both for the angry person and the receiver. It can also have destructive effects. On the other hand, suppression of anger is at the root of many affective disorders, so what is there to do? This lecture will address the nature of anger and how to walk the line between healthy expression and anger management.

Richard Beauvais, PhD, co-founded Wellspring in 1977 and currently serves as Director of Wellspring Institute.

Lectures will be held at Wellspring’s Main Campus:
21 Arch Bridge Road (off Rte 132) in Bethlehem, CT.
