The Wellspring Foundation's Arch Bridge School is a therapeutic special education facility approved by the State of Connecticut Department of Education. The Arch Bridge School provides educational services to students between the ages of 10 and 21 from Wellspring's residential programs and to day students from the local school districts. Located on Wellspring's Main Campus in the rolling hills of Western Connecticut, the Arch Bridge School is surrounded by a scenic woodland setting with pastures, farm animals and a stream, all of which provide an environment that fosters wellness.
The therapeutic dimension of the program offers a comprehensive exploration of the student's individual uniqueness while developing self-reliance, problem-solving skills and socialization. Teachers, counselors, aides and clinicians form the team which develops both educational plans and therapeutic goals for each student.
The fundamental approach of the Arch Bridge School is to develop a personal relationship with each student, within a clearly defined structure of expectations and consequences. Our guiding belief is that all children want to belong and to be accepted by others, and this drive is a motivating force for change with the student. The Core Academics of English, Math, Science and Social Studies are offered in a small classroom setting with individualized instruction. The student-teacher ratio averages 8:1. Teachers are state certified in curriculum areas or in special education, and school counselors and aides support them. They are trained and empowered to apply appropriate relationship and behavioral practices that support learning, self-expression and self-control. Character Education is significant within the overall program at the Arch Bridge School. Emphasis is placed on developing social skills and teaching students appropriate techniques necessary to set goals, problem solve, and manage anger or stress. These coaching activities are integrated within the classroom and small groups. Focus is placed on the student's personal strengths whether addressing his or her academic performance or emotional needs and social behavior. Parental Involvement is important at the Arch Bridge School to create a partnership between the staff, student and the parents. The goal of this partnership is to create and support the changes necessary for the child to succeed. Parent Support Groups are offered for the sharing of information and instruction in order to help understand how a particular family works and to enhance parenting skills.
Individualized Education Plans are based upon the student's academic program prior to admission and the availability of specific courses.
